Bell delivers seventh Huey II kit to Colombian Air Force

Textron's subsidiary Bell Helicopter has delivered the seventh Huey II upgrade kit for the UH-1H Huey helicopters of the Colombian Air Force (COLAF).

The kits were delivered as part of a modernisation programme that aims to facilitate multiple configurations and increased overall mission capability for the helicopter fleet.

Bell Helicopter Huey II Customer Support and Services programme manager Bob Poindexter said: "The Huey II upgrade reduces direct maintenance costs (DMCs), improves performance and enhances safety.

"The programme overall allows for the increased fleet longevity and better cost oversight and forecasting."

"With more than 270 aircraft built, the Huey II is the only OEM approved UH-1H upgrade currently available.

"The programme began with an onsite full-time Bell Helicopter technical representative supporting the in-country upgrade programme for the initial Huey II conversion.

"Following the initial upgrade, COLAF has been completing all conversions.

"The programme overall allows for the increased fleet longevity and better cost oversight and forecasting."

Additionally, the Huey II upgrade programme aims at increasing the capabilities of COLAF maintenance personnel through the initial conversion process.

Powered by Honeywell T53-L-703 engine, the Huey II helicopter features enhanced Shaft Horsepower to 1,800 with the T53-L-703 upgrade package to provide increased lifting capabilities.

Capable of equipping a wide array of instrumentation and avionics, the aircraft also features new main and tail rotor hub assemblies and blades as well as 2,269kg cargo lifting capability and a useful load of 2,210kg.
