L-3 Communications Holdings is currently holding talks with Saudi Arabia regarding the potential sale of spy planes similar to those used by the US Air Force.
L-3 Communications Holdings chief executive officer Mike Strianese said in an interview at the Farnborough Air Show in the UK that Saudi Arabia was interested in a Project Liberty-type system.

Strianese said that Saudi Arabia may consider a fleet of such planes to enhance its internal security, according to Bloomberg.
Equipped with electro optical and heat-sensing cameras, the Project Liberty system is based on Hawker Beechcraft’s King Air 350 propeller planes, used by the USAF in Iraq and Afghanistan.
The planes can fly as high as 35,000ft and remain in orbit for as long as five hours.
Strianese said the potential sale of the spy planes to Saudi Arabia would be part of an arms package, including military airplanes, navy vessels and missile defence systems, from the US Defense Department.
