The US Air Force has received a proposal from Boeing to upgrade the cockpits of its fleet of 59 KC-10 aircraft.

The KC-10 Extender is an air-to-air tanker aircraft largely operated in the strategic refuelling of tactical aircraft and transport aircraft.

The cockpit upgrade proposal also includes engineering and manufacturing development, production and installation of the KC-10 Communications, Navigation, Surveillance and Air Traffic Management modification to enhance pilot awareness and safety in high technology environments.

Boeing KC-10 programme director Mike Wright said the cockpit upgrade would help the aircraft maintain Global Air Traffic Management standards.
