The Pakistani Air Force (PAF) has activated its air defence radars installed on the western border with Afghanistan to ward off any covert strike on Pakistani soil.

The activation follows the alleged radar jam during the raid by US Navy SEALs operation in Abbottabad.

PAF chief air chief marshal Rao Qamar Suleiman said the radars were deactivated as no attack was anticipated from the foreign forces in the western border with Afghanistan.

Pakistan has two kinds of radars, high-level radars to protect the air space and low-level radars for training flights.

PAF also has two Saab-2000 Erieye airborne early warning and control (AWACs) aircraft and will receive three China-built AWACS by the end of 2011.
