Teledyne Scientific & Imaging (TS&I) has received a contract to provide laser eye protection to the US Air Force's (USAF) aircrew.

Valued at $30.1m, the contract requires the company to manufacture, test and deliver aircrew laser eye protection (ALEP) Block 2 spectacles.

Teledyne president and CEO Robert Mehrabian said: “For over 15 years, Teledyne has designed and developed specialised eyewear to protect aircrews from loss of vision caused by a variety of laser devices.

"Deliveries under the contract will begin later this year and will continue through to December 2020."

The deal covers an initial development phase, with additional options for the manufacture of production quantities to support the OneWeb’s fleet to commence in 2017.

Teledyne Defence's communications repeater equipment is said to be a part of the satellite payload that is designed to allow OneWeb Satellites to deliver broadband internet access on a global scale.

As part of a separate deal, Teledyne Technologies completed the sale of assets of its printed circuit technology business to FTG Circuits.

Teledyne Technologies provides digital imaging products and software, aerospace and defence electronics, and engineered systems.

It currently has operations in the US, Canada, the UK, and Western and Northern Europe.
