The Government of Canada has awarded a contract to L-3 Military Aviation Services (MAS) to provide maintenance for the Canadian Forces’ fleet of five CC-150 Polaris (Airbus A-310) aircraft.

Under the one-year contract, L-3 MAS will serve as a prime contractor and will provide the day-to-day maintenance of the aircraft fleet at 8 Wing Trenton.

Avianor will serve as an L3-MAS subcontractor to provide heavy-maintenance at the company’s facilities in Mirabel, Quebec, Canada.

The contract is valued at up to CAN$25m for a ten-month period and has six extension options, of one month each.

The CC-150 Polaris is a long-range transport aircraft and can support passenger, freight or medical transport, and VVIP transport missions.

Depending on the particular tail number and configuration, the multi-purpose CC-150 Polaris aircraft can transport 28 to 194 people at a maximum speed of up to 1,029km/h.

The two of five twin-engine CC-150 Polaris aircraft, currently in service, have been configured for strategic air-to-air refuelling for Canada’s fleet of CF-18 Hornet fighter aircraft, as part of the Air Force Multi-Role Tanker Transport (MRTT) programme.

Since December 1992, Aveos Fleet Performance had provided CC-150 Polaris aircraft maintenance at 8 Wing Trenton until the firm shut down on 30 April 2012.

Contractual arrangements were also made to meet urgent requirements, which involved engaging former Aveos and Air Canada employees to perform maintenance work on the Airbus at 8 Wing Trenton for continuous Polaris fleet support.
