Saab and FMV Test & Evaluation Department have jointly conducted the first safe-separation firing of a Meteor missile from a Gripen fighter aircraft as part of the Swedish integration programme.

The test, carried out at the Vidsel test range, verified the model on separation of the missile from the aircraft.

During the test, the impact from the missile exhaust plume on the aircraft engine was studied and temperature data from the aircraft engine was monitored.

An initial evaluation after the firing showed that the missile separated from the inboard pylon station in a normal manner, and the data link between the missile and the aircraft was activated.

The final integration of Meteor missile with Gripen for the Swedish Air Force has begun and is expected to complete during 2013.
