The US Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA) has notified Congress of a potential $700m foreign military sale of continued logistics support for C-17 Globemaster III aircraft to Qatar.

Under the sale, Qatar seeks to receive continued logistics support for eight C-17 aircraft, which provide a heavy airlift capability.

The logistics support services include contract labour for sustainment engineering, on-site COMSEC support, Quality Assurance, support equipment repair, supply chain management, spares replenishment, maintenance, back shop support, and centralised maintenance support / associated services.

Qatar has also requested for upgrades such as fixed installation satellite antenna, Mode 5+ installation and sustainment, Automatic Dependent Surveillance-Broadcast Out, and two special operations loading ramps.

The C-17 complements the normal, day-to-day operations of the Government of Qatar’s C-130J fleet.

As part of a separate $81m sale, Qatar will receive spare C-17 engines, equipment, and support.

The sale covers four spare F117-PW-100 engines, quick engine change (QEC) kits, engine transport trailers, engine platforms, engine trailers, and other various support services.

It will also strengthen the country's capability to provide humanitarian aid in the Middle East and Africa region and support its troops in coalition operations.

Boeing Corporation of Chicago will serve as the prime contractor for the sale.

The Boeing-built C-17 is a four-engine, T-tailed military transport aircraft that can carry large equipment, supplies and troops directly to small airfields in harsh terrain anywhere in the world.
