The Polish Air Force has dissolved the Special Regiment 36 unit on charges of poor pilot training and lenient security procedures, which reportedly led to the Smolensk plane crash.

Associated Press quoted Poland’s defence minister Tomasz Siemoniak as saying the air force’s Special Regiment 36 is responsible for transporting top state officials.

Prime Minister Donald Tusk said Poland’s national commercial airline, LOT, will take care of government flights following the unit phase out.

The 2010 plane crash in Smolensk, Russia, killed President Lech Kaczynski and 95 others, including major military personnel.

The Air Force also disbanded three generals and ten other officers responsible for pilot training, with more dismissals expected to follow.
