Alion Science and Technology has been awarded a contract modification to continue the provision of lifecycle acquisition support to the US Air Force (USAF), under the secretary of the air force technical and analytical support (SAFTAS) contract.

Under the terms of the $183m contract, the company will deliver lifecycle acquisition support to the Assistant Secretary of the Air Force (Acquisition) organization (SAF/AQ) and the F-35 Lightning II Joint Program Management Office.

The company will specifically provide requirements analysis, acquisition strategy and programme execution support, thus allowing greater continuity throughout the air force and F-35 acquisition operations.

Support ranges from database and enterprise architecture development to modelling and simulation (M&S), as well as the test and evaluation (T&E) support to complement air force expertise.

Alion Technology, Engineering and Operational Solutions Sector senior vice president and manager, Rob Hirt, said the contract brings together a cost-effective and easily tailored workforce to support the full lifecycle of air force acquisition at the headquarters level, the F-35 Lightning II Joint Strike Fighter (JSF) Joint Program Office and several other acquisition-related organisations.

Services provided by the company as part of the contract will also support the service’s other weapons systems, including the KC-46 tanker, C-17 Globemaster, F-22 Raptor, small diameter bomb (SDB), as well as the RQ-4 Global Hawk and the Predator unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV).

The company’s SAFTAS team will also deliver technical and architectural support to help the Air Force Chief Information Officer in the development of acquisition enterprise architecture.

Work under the contract is scheduled to run until December 2015.
