Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI) has upgraded its Heron TP UAV’s capabilities with long-range persistent surveillance options and area dominance capabilities.

The firm received this achievement after integrating the UAV with its high-definition M-19HD EO payload that is manufactured by IAI’s Tamam Division.

In conjunction with this development, the M-19HD successfully conducted flight tests onboard manned and unmanned platforms, including the Heron 1 UAS, IAI stated.

IAI Tamam Division general manager Avi Elisha said:"We are proud to integrate the M-19HD payload on IAI’s flagship UAS, the Heron TP.

The multispectral, multi-sensor observation and targeting payload, M-19HD, offers continuous day / night surveillance under all weather conditions.

The system is capable of simultaneously incorporating up to seven sensors. It delivers better acquisition ranges with the support of its sensors, high stabilisation and unique image processing capabilities, the firm stated.

In addition, M-19HD minimises operator workload and also enhances situational awareness by virtue of its multimode automatic video tracker (AVT).

M-19HD also offers accurate geo-location capabilities sing an embedded inertial measurement unit / global positioning system (IMU/GPS).

According to IAI, the solution is capable of operating in demanding high-end applications on a range of platforms such as high / medium-altitude, long-endurance unmanned aerial vehicles fixed- wing aircraft, combat helicopters, aerostats, and maritime vessels.
