The US Air Force (USAF) has deployed three B-2 Spirit heavy penetration strategic bombers to Andersen Air Force Base (AFB) on Guam to conduct air operations.
During the deployment, the B-2s will conduct local and regional training sorties, and will integrate capabilities with key regional partners in a bid to ensure bomber crews maintain a high state of readiness and crew proficiency.
The US Strategic Command regularly demonstrates its capability to command, control and conduct global bomber missions to provide continuous stability and security in the Indo-Asia-Pacific region.
US Strategic Command commander navy admiral Cecil D. Haney said: “Our strategic bomber force routinely operates around the globe and with our regional allies and partners, and this deployment is one such demonstration of the US commitment to supporting global and regional security.
“Bomber training missions ensure crews maintain a high state of readiness and proficiency and demonstrate our ability to provide an always-ready global strike capability, whenever and wherever we are called to do so.”
Powered by four General Electric F118-GE-100 engines, the B-2 multi-role bomber has the ability to deliver both conventional and nuclear munitions.
The bomber, with enough space to accommodate a crew of two pilots, can achieve high-subsonic speeds.
The latest deployment of B-2s follows the replacement of B-52 Stratofortress with B-1B Lancers at Andersen AFB.
