Kaman Aerosystems' Air Vehicles and MRO unit has been contracted to set up depot level maintenance capabilities for the Egyptian Air Force (EAF) SH-2G(E) helicopter programme.
Valued at $3.6m, the three-year contract was awarded by the US Naval Air Systems Command (NAVAIR).
The depot capability will be established at the EAF’s Helwan Aviation Depot Workshop, near Cairo.
The contract includes the provision of management, engineering, and logistics services to the EAF to maintain aircraft readiness, aircraft system readiness, and the integrated logistics support elements associated with the SH-2G(E) programme.
Kaman Aerosystems president Jim Larwood said: “We are pleased to enter the next phase of the Egyptian Air Force’s SH-2G(E) programme.
"This is the next step in what we expect will continue to be a meaningful long-term effort to support the Egyptians in operating their highly capable SH-2 fleet.”
The EAF currently operates a fleet of ten SH-2G(E) Super Seasprite helicopters.
It recently acquired seven Excess Defense Article (EDA) SH-2G aircraft from NAVAIR, which increase the fleet size to 17 aircraft.
The all-weather multi-mission helicopter has been designed to fulfil anti-submarine warfare (ASW), anti-surface warfare (ASuW), over the horizon targeting, surveillance, troop transport, vertical replenishment, search-and-rescue, and utility missions.
To date, the helicopter has recorded more than 1.5 million flight hours.
Originally designed to meet the US Navy requirements, the SH-2G Super Seasprite is currently operated by the Royal New Zealand Navy and the Polish Navy, besides the EAF.
