IAF’s upgraded Jaguar DARIN III achieves initial operation clearance

The Indian Air Force's (IAF) upgraded Jaguar DARIN III has received initial operation clearance (IOC), Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) said in a statement.

Under the programme, three DARIN I Standard Jaguars were upgraded to DARIN III Standard by HAL.

The avionics upgrade includes an open system architecture mission computer (OSAMC), engine and flight instrument system (EFIS), fire control radar, inertial navigation system with GPS and Geodetic height correction.

The Sepecat Jaguar attack aircraft have also been fitted with solid state digital video recording system (SSDVRS), solid state flight data recorder (SSFDR), smart multi-function display (SMD), radio altimeter with 20,000ft range, autopilot with alt select and HNAV and identification of friend or foe (IFF).

HAL CMD T. Suvarna Raju said that the aircraft is now equipped with world class avionics system.

"Under the programme, three DARIN I Standard Jaguars were upgraded to DARIN III Standard by HAL."

The design and development of the new avionics architecture, covering system requirement capture, specification preparation, software, hardware, electrical and mechanical design and development, was carried out indigenously at HAL’s Mission and Combat System Research and Design Centre (MCSRDC) and aircraft modification was done at Overhaul Division.

Besides HAL, certification agencies, trial team of ASTE and other agencies were involved in the upgrade programme, the statement said.

IAF air marshal RKS Bhadauria said that the DARIN III Upgrade is one of best upgrades in terms of data handling and overall capabilities.
