Lockheed Martin has received an order from the Taiwan Air Force to deliver Sniper advanced targeting pod (ATP) for its F-16 aircraft.
Under this initial contract, Lockheed will deliver two Sniper ATPs and integration support to Taiwan.
In addition, the company will supply integration support of Lantirn targeting and navigation pods on recently upgraded F-16s.
Lockheed Martin Missiles and Fire Control Sniper ATP international programme manager Marc Nazon said: "With Sniper ATP, pilots will have access to unmatched imagery for precision targeting and non-traditional intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance efforts, enabling greater overall mission success"
According to Lockheed, the new order will make Taiwan the 20th international customer to choose Sniper ATP to meet precision attack requirements.
The Sniper ATP has been designed to provide pilots with high-resolution imagery for precision targeting and non-traditional intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance missions.
With this system, aircraft crew will be able to detect, identify, automatically track and laser designate small tactical targets at long ranges, supporting employment of all laser- and GPS-guided weapons against multiple fixed and moving targets.
Recently, Lockheed secured a direct commercial sale contract for the integration of its Sniper advanced targeting pod (ATP) onto the Japan Air Self-Defense Force’s (JASDF) F-2 aircraft.
The solution’s interoperability will allow the air forces to use the pod across multiple platforms, including the F-15, F-16, F-18, A-10, B-1 and B-52 aircraft.
