Harris and CPqD to support Brazilian Air Force’s ATC network

The Brazilian Air Force has awarded a contract to Harris and CPqD, an information and communications technologies provider, to deliver a monitor and control system and on-site operations support for its air traffic control (ATC) network.

The Brazilian Air Force has awarded a contract to Harris and CPqD, an information and communications technologies provider, to deliver a monitor and control system and on-site operations support for its air traffic control (ATC) network.

Under this contract, Harris will be responsible for providing specialised technical services and operations support.

Harris Brazil president Reinaldo Rezende said: "Harris provides highly secure and reliable communications solutions to customers in more than 125 countries around the world, including the US Federal Aviation Administration’s nationwide communications network.

"We are committed to bringing new technologies and capabilities to Brazil as it continues to expand and upgrade its communications infrastructure."

With this new development, network operations centre personnel will be able to remotely monitor Brazilian Airspace Control System equipment, including surveillance, navigation, and communications systems.

As a result, the air force personnel will be capable of locating and isolating outages and initiate repairs throughout the country’s ATC network.

On the other hand, CPqD will deliver its intelligent management monitor and control product, which is a network management and services platform.

CPqD president Sebastião Sahão Junior said: "CPqD has extensive experience implementing operational support systems for telecommunications companies in Brazil as well as many other Latin American countries.

"It is this experience, coupled with our field proven solution, which we will employ to more efficiently manage Brazilian airspace."
