The US Air Force (USAF) has awarded a new contract with a total value of $200m for the delivery of comprehensive training support services for airmen in the Air Force Special Operations Command (AFSOC).

Lockheed Martin is the company contracted for the project and will be responsible for supporting schoolhouse operations for various crew positions across multiple mission design series aircraft, as well as providing aircrew training and support for AFSOC Special Operation Forces (SOF) aircrews and assets.

The USAF’s new Air Commando Training and Support (ACTS) contract has the potential to continue for up to eight years.

Under the AFSOC ACTS programme, the USAF special operations will be provided with aircrew instruction and distributed, and fully networked mission rehearsal and training capabilities.

In addition, airmen will be provided with logistics support for several AFSOC weapon systems, including the special mission C-130J, CV-22 and a wide variety of other training systems.

Under the contract, the company will deliver engineering and cybersecurity support services in order to ensure that AFSOC’s training devices act in conjunction with their aircraft.

Through advancements in virtual reality development, the AFSOC ACTS programme is expected to provide the aircrew members with the latest training capabilities.
