The US State Department has announced its approval of a possible sale of AH-64E Apache Helicopters and related equipment to the Government of Kuwait at an estimated price of $4bn.

The Defense Security Cooperation Agency has delivered the required certification to notify the Congress about the possible sale.

The sale of the AH-64E Apache helicopters is expected to improve Kuwait’s capability to meet current and future threats by improving the country’s close air support, armed reconnaissance, and antitank warfare mission capabilities.

The Government of Kuwait has made a request to purchase eight AH-64E Apache Longbow Attack Helicopters and remanufacture sixteen of their AH-64D Apache Longbow Attack Helicopters to the AH-64E configuration.

Kuwait is also expected to face no difficulty in absorbing the helicopters into its armed forces. The proposed sale is also said to have no adverse impact on US defense readiness.

The department stated: “The proposed sale of this equipment and support will not alter the basic military balance in the region.”
