The US Air Force (USAF)’s F-35A Lightning II joint strike fighter has successfully carried out sorties with the new version of the autonomic logistics information system (ALIS).

The upgraded version, ALIS 2.0.2.4, performs behind-the-scenes monitoring, maintenance and prognostics to support the fighter aircraft.

34th Aircraft Maintenance Unit (AMU) lead production superintendent senior master sergeant Jory Cyr said: “The biggest improvement is the incorporation of the propulsion system within ALIS.

“This alleviates the need to have multiple products to manually track time change items and inspection times. This ALIS update combines air vehicle and propulsion system times in one location.”

Upon completion of the upgrade, the 34th AMU could fly 100% of the locally scheduled sorties.

Said to be the F-35A’s information technology infrastructure, ALIS integrates a variety of capabilities such as operations, maintenance, prognostics, supply chain, customer support services, training and technical data.

"Said to be the F-35A’s information technology infrastructure, ALIS integrates a variety of capabilities such as operations, maintenance, prognostics, supply chain, customer support services, training and technical data."

The Lockheed Martin-built ALIS has the ability to convert data from multiple sources into actionable information, enabling pilots, maintainers and military leaders to make proactive decisions to keep jets flying.

As part of the sortie, the F-35A Lightning II was launched from Hill Air Force Base, Utah, and was piloted by lieutenant colonel Dave DeAngelis of the 419th Fighter Wing.

388th Maintenance Group commander colonel Michael Miles said: “The culmination of the ALIS 2.0.2.4 and our 3,000th sortie is important because it highlights how fast the programme at large is moving forward and how locally we are generating sorties at a very high rate with only 22 aircraft assigned.

“For example, in March, we flew each of our aircraft an average of 17 times. Our airmen are out-producing the entire F-35 enterprise, and the Hill Air Force Base stand-up of F-35 operations is ahead of schedule.
