Affinity Flying Training Services, a joint venture between Elbit Systems and KBR, has begun taking delivery of Grob G120TP Prefect training aircraft, under the UK Military Flying Training System (MFTS) programme.

The company has received the first two G120TPs, which will be operated by the UK Royal Air Force (RAF).

The Grob Aircraft-built G120TP is to be based out of RAF Cranwell and RAF Barkston Heath and will be used to deliver elementary flying training.

The training covers basic aviation principles and handling skills, as well as an introduction to basic navigation, night flying and instrument-only flying.

Elbit Systems UK CEO Martin Fausset said: “We are delighted to have delivered these aircraft only nine months after contract award.

"We are proud to be a part of this significant project and look forward to seeing more aircraft coming on stream next year."

Affinity Flying Training Services will purchase a total of 38 aircraft to support the three levels of flying training. The remainder of the fleet will be delivered next year.

The two-seat, single-engine military trainer aircraft offers a cost-effective military training solution for the air forces.

In addition to basic and advanced pilot training missions, the aircraft will be used for aerobatic manoeuvres such as spins, loops, rolls, stall turns and outside turns.

The G 120TP trainer can operate at a maximum altitude of 25,000ft and has a maximum operating speed of 245k.
