Selex to equip Indonesian Air Force’s CN-235 aircraft with SAGE 600 ESM

Finmeccanica's Selex has secured a contract from US-based prime contractor Integrated Surveillance and Defense (ISD) to provide a SAGE 600 digital Electronic Support Measure (ESM) system for the Indonesian Air Force.

Finmeccanica’s Selex has secured a contract from US-based prime contractor Integrated Surveillance and Defense (ISD) to provide a SAGE 600 digital Electronic Support Measure (ESM) system for the Indonesian Air Force.

SAGE, an electronic warfare system, is designed for radio frequency (RF) intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance missions.

The system is capable of collecting emitter data from RF sources at a tactically significant range and compares them with an emitter library to identify and geolocate any threats.

It is expected that the system will be delivered in September this year. After the delivery, the solution will be integrated onto a maritime patrol mission system for an Indonesian Air Force Airbus CN-235 aircraft.

The SAGE 600 ESM has been designed for an easy integration onto aerial vehicles ranging from fixed to rotary wing, up to unmanned aerial systems, the company stated.

It has been already installed on a number of other platform types, including the Schiebel Camcopter S-100 remotely-piloted air system.

Currently, the system is in use with the UK Ministry of Defence (MoD). The Republic of Korea has recently received the solution as part of a package of electronic warfare equipment for the country’s maritime operational helicopter (MOH) programme.

According to Finmeccanica, the latest contract represents the first selection of SAGE for a fixed-wing maritime patrol requirement.

Meanwhile, SAGE is set to undergo four weeks of testing on the Schiebel S-100 Camcopter rotary wing unmanned air vehicle, Flightglobal reported.
