Saab.jpg” />Saab has agreed to provide support services to its 340 Erieye airborne surveillance system operated by the UAE.
The agreement worth SEK160m ($17.4m) will run until the end of 2018.
Under the agreed terms, the company will provide support and maintenance for the surveillance system, which includes Saab 340 aircraft fitted with the advanced Erieye radar system, along with associated ground equipment.
Saab support and services head Jonas Hjelm said: "The agreement is a confirmation of our ability to deliver a comprehensive support solution over the product's entire life cycle, during which we are able to guarantee availability for the customer.”
The Saab 340 airborne early warning and control (AEW&C) is a variant of the Saab 340 aircraft and it can accommodate a crew of six people. It has an endurance of more than five hours.

The Erieye radar system uses active electronically scanned array technology and can be used on a variety of aircraft platforms, such as the Saab 340 and Embraer E-99.
This radar is said to provide 300 degree coverage and has an instrumental range of 450km and detection range of 350km in heavy radar clutter and at low target altitudes.
Additionally, the radar is also capable of identifying friends or foes, and has a sea surveillance mode.
