The Royal Air Force of Oman (RAFO) has awarded a contract to UK-based aviation consultant Baines Simmons to provide aviation safety consultancy services in order to improve and safeguard airworthiness of the service’s aircraft fleet.

Baines Simmons consultancy and training programme will be relevant after Oman receives new fleets of Typhoon and Hawk 200 aircraft.

Under the contract, Baines Simmons will support the development of a new Continuing Airworthiness ruleset for the RAFO, which previously used a military regulatory system based on UK legacy requirements.

The company will ensure that the RAFO operates in line with international modern military airworthiness standards.

Baines Simmons director Bob Simmons said: "Our work for the RAFO will create the blueprint for the most up-to-date defence airworthiness regulatory system in the world.”

Baines Simmons stated that it will use the expertise gained by supporting the European Defence Agency (EDA) and the UK Military Aviation Authority (MAA) to draft and implement the new regulatory system.
