A KDC-10 transport aircraft from the Royal Netherlands Air Force has successfully refuelled a C-17 plane from the Heavy Airlift Wing (HAW).
The refuelling has been undertaken in light, dusk and night-time conditions over the North Sea.
The aircraft refuelled the C-17 flying at 890kmph at almost 3,000l of kerosene per minute.
The is the first time a C-17 of the HAW has been refuelled by a KDC-10 tanker and its successful flight provided KDC-10 with its C-17 certification to routinely perform in-flight refuelling for C-17s.
The C-17 is one of three airlifters acquired by a consortium of 12 nations operating the HAW.
