The Italian Air Force has successfully deployed four AMX fighter-bomber aircraft in Afghanistan for reconnaissance missions.

The single-seat and single-engine fighter bomber is capable of travelling 720km at a speed of Mach 0.86, and in the Afghan missions the AMX will be allowed to fire their onboard cannons in case of necessity.

The planes belonging to the 51st Wing of Istrana (Treviso, Italy) of the air force will replace two Tornado fighters.

The tornadoes will return to Italy in about one month, after completing 350 missions surveying 800 objectives in about 900 flight hours, after the AMXs become fully operational.
