Lockheed Martin has joined the US Department of Defense’s (DoD) advanced software development programme ‘Platform One’.

The company has been added to the programme by the US Air Force (USAF) with a Basic Ordering Agreement (BOA) for Platform One Software DevSecOps Services.

Platform One serves as an official ‘DevSecOps Enterprise Services team’ for the DoD.

DevSecOps is a suite of automated tools and services that enable programmes to develop, secure, deploy and operate applications in a secured manner.

The programme is aimed at rapid software development, delivery and deployment for defence missions.

It is a ‘standardised and widely mandated’ DoD DevSecOps Infrastructure programme aimed at future software development.

USAF chief software officer Nic Chaillan said: “It’s clear from their actions that Lockheed Martin is embracing DevSecOps and is committed to advancing Platform One capabilities.

“Collaboration with industry is key to the success of Platform One and other advanced cloud and software efforts, and we look forward to working with the Defense Industrial Base to improve the way we deliver fast, secure and high-quality code to warfighters.”

Currently, the company is applying Platform One for DevSecOps within the Lockheed Martin Software Factory.

The factory is part of the company’s ‘Digital Transformation’ initiative.

Lockheed Martin Enterprise Business Transformation senior vice-president Yvonne Hodge said: “Software is at the heart of every system we deliver, and we understand the DoD’s urgent need for faster deliveries, more powerful mission capabilities, and open-source, open-architecture foundations for software.

“Platform One is a truly innovative approach that is propelling the DoD’s DevSecOps evolution, and the collaboration with industry has helped us build infrastructure and capabilities that are well-aligned to the DoD’s vision.”

Last month, Lockheed Martin and the F-35 Joint Program Office (JPO) signed the LANCE contract to support the UK’s Lightning fleet.
