The US Air Force (USAF) has awarded an indefinite-delivery, indefinite-quantity (IDIQ) contract to American defence contractor L3Harris Technologies.

The USAF awarded the $668m five-year contract to help maintain fleet readiness of its C-130 aircraft.

Under the contract, L3Harris will perform sustainment on the C-130H and J-model aircraft at its 1.1-million-square-foot aircraft modification centre in Waco, Texas.

The modification centre comprises hangars to support all missionisation and aircraft services.

It conducts modernisation of parallel avionics and programmed depot-level maintenance for reduced aircraft downtime.

The Lockheed Martin C-130 is the USAF’s principal tactical cargo and personnel transport aircraft. It features a glass cockpit, digital avionics and a propulsion system with a six-blade propeller.

L3Harris Integrated Mission Systems president Sean Stackley said: “L3Harris’ support will alleviate capacity constraints for the US Air Force’s Air Logistics complexes.

“Our extensive C-130 experience, skilled personnel and expansive hangar capacity provide a ready solution to assist the airforce in maintaining its fleet readiness.”

The aircraft modification centre also supports the Air National Guard (ANG) and Air Force Reserve C-130H aircraft fleet under the USAF Avionics Modernization Program (AMP) Increment 2 programme.

It provides services to the airforce, coast guard, navy and marine corps sectors in the US. It also provides services to space, commercial and other international operators.

In July, L3Harris Technologies launched a satellite as part of a USAF constellation for the firm-fixed-price development space mission.
