Korea Aerospace Industries (KAI) has awarded a contract to Cobham Mission Systems to provide an air refuelling probe solution for the FA-50 advanced jet aircraft.

Under the contract, Cobham will be responsible for the design, development and qualification of a telescopic probe solution.

The company expects that the contract will lead to delivering customised solutions according to serial production needs in the future for the Korean company’s customer base.

The air refuelling probe for the FA-50 jet will allow it to conduct air refuelling with the hose and drogue tankers.

According to Cobham, this capability will help boost the aircraft’s flexibility and interoperability during operations.

Cobham Mission Systems in the UK air-to-air refuelling vice-president Russell Bailey said: “Having supported KAI for over a decade, we are delighted to deliver this new operational capability for their impressive FA-50 jet.

In August, KAI contracted Cobham to provide weapons carriage and release equipment for the future Korean Fighter Experimental (KF-X) multi-role fighter aircraft.
