Airbus has signed a contract to provide its SmartForce digital services for the maintenance of the Royal Australian Air Force’s (RAAF) KC-30A multi-role tanker transport (A330 MRTT) air refuelling boom system (ARBS).

The company’s SmartForce digital services suite aims to support the operator in decreasing the costs of maintenance and enhance the availability of the fleet.

The Central Data System function of the SmartForce digital services suite plays a major role in the latest service offered by Airbus.

It enables operators to access flight data recorded by the ‘Mission Recording System’ and provides information outputs with respect to the issues registered during the flight. It also recommends maintenance actions to fix the issues.

Northrop Grumman Australia KC-30A programme manager Jake Adams said: “The introduction of the Central Data System has provided significant benefits in terms of increased availability of the ARBS.”

Launched in July 2018, the SmartForce suite is designed to provide data-driven intelligence using data gathered by the aircraft for optimised maintenance practices.
