Ahead of DSEI 2021, GDT is proud to present a series of exclusive interviews with DSEI Future Tech Hub exhibitors. In this first video, defence and national security director with public sector cloud computing service provider UKCloud Gerry Cantwell tells Berenice Healey why the company is exhibiting and the role of data and cybersecurity in the information age.

DSEI Tech Hub interviews: UKCloud director Gerry Cantwell

Cloud may seem like a well-established technology, but in this interview, Cantwell argues that UKCloud belongs firmly to DSEI’s Future Tech Hub.

Secure cloud has helped support collaborative work environments, which has proven a huge benefit for the defence sector and supply chain, not least during the recent lockdown in response to the Covid-19 pandemic.

For example, Team Tempest is an industry network of partner companies collaborating to develop the Royal Air Force’s next-generation combat aircraft. The programme could see tens of thousands of people who need to collaborate.

Cloud is also at the heart of essential defence technologies like computational fluid dynamics, AI and data analytics.
