The CONTROP DSP-1 was showcased at EUROSATORY 2008, in the Israel Pavilion (hall 6, stand 240d). Visitors could actually operate this stabilised payload with a ‘hands on’ approach; and everyone knows that seeing is believing. The operator can zoom-in and zoom-out with the specialized unique continuous zoom FLIR lens, a technology not matched by any other infrared camera provider. This unique feature enables the operator to keep focus and clear sight of the target while getting a closer look during continuous zoom with the FLIR lens (previously unheard of).

The DSP-1 has several unique features setting it apart from other payloads on the market. The continuous FLIR zoom lens makes this payload so user-friendly that once tried, users will not want to go back to the incremental FLIR zoom known in other payloads. In addition, the improved image algorithms enable a high quality image even in shady areas, and the DSP-1 is available with a laser range finder (LRF).

The DSP-1 has been installed and flies on a variety of UAVs, helicopters and fixed wing airplanes. The DSP-1 has been installed on many different aircraft, including but not limited to the Mi-17, Eurocopter Panther AS565 and Puma helicopters. In addition, it has been installed on UAVs including the IAI Scout, Searcher and Aeronautics Aerostar, and fixed-wing aircraft such as the CESSNA. It has recently been flown on a small aerostat to the complete delight of CONTROP’s customer, proving that this payload is not only superb in image quality, but lightweight enough for an aerostat too.

The applications for these systems include a wide variety of military as well as law enforcement and homeland security programmes. The DSP-1 has a proven track record to the full satisfaction of all its customers, worldwide. This payload has been chosen on a number of international and domestic surveillance programs as the optimal payload to meet the surveillance requirements.

The DSP-1 is a high resolution, high performance dual sensor stabilized payload with an optional laser range finder. The DSP-1 is a compact and lightweight day / night observation system especially configured for use on UAVs, reconnaissance aircraft, and helicopters. A four-gimbal system, gyro-stabilized in azimuth and elevation, it allows the EO sensors’ lines of sight to be aimed and maintained stabilised.

The system uses two camera channels: InSb detector thermal imaging channel with continuous x22.5 zoom lens (with an option of x36 continuous zoom lens) and a high-resolution colour CCD daylight channel with a x20 zoom lens. The DSP-1 is easily integrated onto a wide variety of carrying vehicles thorough a flexible configuration suitable to any specific application.
