The Polish Ministry of Defence has cancelled a 45bn zloty ($450m) tender for the purchase of 16 lead-in fighter trainer (LIFT) aircraft for the Polish Air Force (PAF).

The tender was issued in September 2010, and included flight simulators and fully-equipped classrooms for trainee pilots.

According to reports, the reason behind the cancellation has not been disclosed, however it is expected that a new tender will be issued in the second quarter of 2012.

The Polish Air Force Command will develop the new tactical-technical specifications for the trainer.

The new trainer aircraft will replace the Polish military’s existing TS-11 Iskra trainer jets.
