The Chilean Air Force will take delivery of upgraded F-16 fighter bombers from the Netherlands at the Leeuwarden base.

The first three of 18 F-16 fighters will be handed over to the air force by the end of 2010, according to MercoPress.

The Netherlands will also provide training to the 75 maintenance engineers that will be responsible for the aircraft once they arrive in Chile.

In April 2009, the $270m F-16 acquisition deal was declared by then Defence Minister Francisco Vidal.
