Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin has said that Kazan Aircraft Production Association is to begin the production of a new strategic bomber for the country’s air force.

The plant will start assembling the strategic bombers following the completion of the Tu-160 and Tu-22 long-range bombers upgrade programme, according to RIA Novosti.

The Russian prime minister, however, said nothing about the new bomber’s specifications or exactly when production would start.

Another Kazan helicopter plant will begin production of a new Mi-38 helicopter, and manufacture Mi-8, Ansat and Aktai helicopters, according to Putin.

The Russian Air Force currently has 93 Tu-22s, 16 Tu-160s and 64 Tu-95 long-range bombers.
