Lithuania is to provide a team of advisors for Nato’s Afghanistan training mission and the Combined Air Power Transition Force (CAPTF) at the Afghan Air Force base in Kabul.

The Lithuanian team will arrive in Afghanistan in early January 2011, under a two-year commitment to Nato.

US Air Force 440th Air Expeditionary Advisory Squadron Capt Thomas Filbert said this was a significant obligation and contribution by Lithuania, because they only have one helicopter unit to support CAPTF.

On 26 August 2010, a delegation from the country arrived at the Afghan Air Force base in Kabul to gather critical information for their role in Afghanistan.

The team will work with a Ukrainian team to develop a complete, self-supporting advisory group with capabilities ranging from logistics to operations.
