The US Air Force handed over a fifth-generation F-22 Raptor aircraft to the 199th Fighter Squadron (FS), 154th Wing, Hawaii Air National Guard (HIANG) on 9 July 2010.

The 199th FS will be the first guard unit to receive the F-22, which will replace its F-15 Eagle that has been in service since 1987.

Originally designed as an air superiority fighter, the F-22 is a single-seat, twin-engine aircraft that employs stealth technology.

The squadron will fly and help maintain the F-22s that will add a new capability to the HIANG and the air force.
