India has carried out initial flight tests on the fourth production version of the light combat helicopter (LCH) Tejas, before it is delivered to the Indian Air Force (IAF).

During the test, the aircraft , limited series production-4 (LSP-4), flew to an altitude of 11km at a supersonic speed of Mach 1.1, according to IANS.

The helicopter will now undergo hot weather trials in central India while being flown by operational pilots from the defence services.

The IAF has ordered 20 Tejas helicopters, each costing Rs150m ($3m), to be delivered by 2013.

The first, second and third Tejas production versions were flight tested in 2007, 2008 and 2010.
