Brazil to Put Condition on Fighter Jet Supplier

26 May 2010

Brazil may ask the supplier of 36 air force fighter jets to buy 12 cargo jets from Empresa Brasileira de Aeronautica as a pre-condition for the fighter deal.

Brazilian Defence Minister Nelson Jobim told Valor Economico that the purchase of the Embraer KC-390 jets would be a pre-condition for buying the 36 aircraft for nearly $6bn.

A proposal for the Embraer jet acquisition will soon be presented to Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva.

Dassault Aviation, Saab and Boeing are competing for the Brazilian aircraft contract.
