The Royal Norwegian Air Force has taken delivery of the fourth and final C 130J Super Hercules airlifter from Lockheed Martin ordered under the US foreign military sales (FMS) programme.

In November 2007, the US Government awarded a contract to Lockheed to supply four C-130Js, initial spares and training to Norway.

The C-130Js are more operationally efficient compared to the C-130Hs, built in 1968, currently in service with Norway, and can fly farther, faster with more payload and greater reliability.

With the new fleet of C-130Js, Norway will meet its national airlift mission requirements and support missions with international organisations like the UN and Nato.

Lockheed Martin Norway C-130J programme director Julie Whitehead said with today’s acceptance of two more aircraft, the Royal Norwegian Air Force was among the countries with the most advanced cargo fleets in the world.

Norway received the first C-130J in November 2008 and the second in April 2009.
