Lockheed Martin has successfully test fired a direct attack guided rocket (DAGR) rocket, launching it from an airborne OH-58D Kiowa Warrior helicopter.

DAGR, a semi-active laser guidance kit, adapts to 2.75in/70mm rockets and provides guided-rocket performance similar to the laser-guided HELLFIRE II missile.

It was developed as a precision-strike, air-to-ground weapon for non-armoured or lightly-armoured high-value targets close to civilian assets or friendly forces.

The system can be integrated on all rotary-wing Hellfire platforms, including the Apache, Little Bird, Kiowa, Blackhawk, Cobra and Tiger helicopters.

DAGR can be mounted on the same launcher as the Hellfire missile, to increase operational flexibility and cost-effective multimission capability from a single platform.

During the recent airborne tests, two DAGR rockets launched from the OH-58D Kiowa, at ranges of 3.5km and 5km successfully hit the target within 1m of the laser aimpoint.
