Argentina to Strengthen Air Force

To strengthen the country's air force, Argentina is considering buying 12 Dassault Mirage F1CJ fighters and one F1BJ trainer, at a cost of $100m.

The deal is significant for Argentina as the air force's remaining Mirage IIIEA/DAs will retire in 2012, according to Flightglobal.

Two Saab 340 aircraft equipped with Erieye airborne early warning radars, are also on Argentina's shopping list to enhance its air defence capabilities.

Argentina will also purchase two Mil Mi-17V1 helicopter, under a $20m deal, to restore the air force's heavylift helicopter capability.
