15 March 2010

The Government of Bangladesh intends to procure fighter aircraft, surface-to-air missile systems, helicopters, and air-defence radars and armaments to modernise the country's air force.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said the government had approved a development plan to construct necessary infrastructure at Cox's Bazar for fighter jet and transport aircraft, according to UNB.

The government is arranging necessary funds to implement the development plan and all possible measures will be taken to bring the country's air force up-to-date with modern technology-based war weapons, Hasina said.

Plans are also underway for various other welfare projects for air force personnel are also currently being considered by the government.
