Iranian Air Force to Test Fire New Guided Weapon

04 March 2010

The Imperial Iranian Air Force (IIAF) will soon test fire a new version of a 2,000lb guided bomb.

Air Force commander-in-chief Hassan Shahsafi said the Qassed-1 guided bomb has been mass produced and given to the air force, according to Reuters.

"The Qassed-2 has a longer range, more accuracy and enjoys more explosive power than the older version," he said.

The Qassed (Herald) bomb was first test fired in 2006 during a large-scale military exercise in Iran.

Iran has recently increased the development of missiles and other new weapons, being concerned about the growing US military presence in neighbouring Iraq and Afghanistan.
