UAE Resumes Talks with Korea to Buy T-50 Trainer

01 February 2010

Talks have been resumed by the United Arab Emirates (UAE) for the acquisition of a South Korean built T-50 jet trainer following failed negotiations to purchase Italy's M-346 trainer.

In February 2009, the UAE selected Alenia Aermacchi’s M-346 for an order of 48 aircraft including 20 light fighter versions.

But negotiations to acquire the €1bn ($1.4bn) Italian aircraft stalled due to a misunderstanding between the parties over specifications, according to defencenews.com.

The UAE is currently in advanced talks with Korea, which may result in an agreement over the purchase of Korean Aerospace Industry-built T-50 jet trainer.
