Lockheed Martin has been awarded a $78.5m contract to continue to provide its service for the work, already performed under the US Air Force global combat support system-air force (GCSS-AF) programme.

Developed in partnership with the air force, the GCSS-AF is a network-centric enterprise information technology programme that integrates 400 applications and data from finance, logistics and personnel systems into one enterprise.

The GCSS-AF programme modernises and integrates combat support systems, and provides a common global picture of combat assets and supplies to the joint and air force commanders and combat support personnel.

The high level of integration helps the air force to determine the availability of resources to handle threats, and in maintaining the highest level of preparedness to deploy units anywhere.
