Finmeccanica Group to Support Italian Typhoons

Finmeccanica subsidiaries are to supply integrated support services to the Italian Air Force for its fleet of Eurofighter aircraft.

Under the $600m contract awarded to the group by the Nato Eurofighter and Tornado Management Agency (NETMA) and Eurofighter, Alenia Aeronautica, SELEX Galileo, SELEX Communications and Elettronica will carry out the services.

Alenia Aeronautica will supply and repair all aircraft equipment for the Italian typhoons including avionics equipment and also maintain and manage the instruments required to carry out maintenance work.

SELEX Galileo will ensure the operational availability of a large part of the aircraft's avionics suite to provide for maintenance and technical support, identify pattern defects, manage obsolescence, and supply spare parts and test solutions.

The communication, navigation and identification equipment on the Typhoon fleet will be maintained by SELEX Communications and includes setting up a maintenance centre at the air base, supply and maintenance of test devices, repair of faulty modules and support activities.

Elettronica will provide systems support for Praetorian defensive aids suite on the aircraft and ensure operational availability of the Praetorian in collaboration with SELEX Galileo and Indra.
