RAF Typhoons Take Over Falklands Duties

19 October 2009

Two Royal Air Force Typhoon fighter jets have taken over quick reaction alert (QRA) duties from Tornado F3s at Falkland Islands, and will police the skies above the Falkland Islands.

The two jets arrived accompanied by VC10s and TriStar air-to-air refuelling tankers, and were joined by two F3s from 1435 Flight and a Hercules.

Two additional Typhoons will join the first two, to take over from four Tornados of 111 Squadron, which will be retired in 2011, and are based at RAF Leuchars.
