The Royal Australian Air Force’s C-17 heavy air-lift aircraft has achieved its first landing on a remote dirt-strip in Afghanistan.

The aircraft have been delivering stores and equipment to coalition forces since 2006.

The C-17s have the capability to carry four times the load as the C130 Hercules aircraft.

The Royal Australian Air Force plans to continue deploying the C-17s to support Australian and coalition forces in Afghanistan during the upcoming Afghan national elections.
