New Fuel Cell Systems for US Air Force UAVs

02 July 2009

Fuel cell producer UltraCell Corporation will build fuel cell systems for the US Air Forces Center for Unmanned Air Vehicles (UAV) Exploitation in Ohio.

The Center for Unmanned Air Vehicles Exploitation, a collaboration between local businesses, academic institutions and the Air Force Research Laboratory, will receive ten units based on reformed methanol fuel cell technology.

The lightweight XX25 systems are designed to help the UAVs to run longer.

The XX25 has completed several MIL-STD-810F Environmental Tests and achieved the military's technology readiness level 7 status, making it an ideal power source for new UAVs, the company said.
