Iran Begins Gulf Air Force Exercise

22 June 2009

The Iranian Air Force has begun a three-day air force exercise in the Gulf and the Sea of Oman to augment its operational and support capability, local media has reported.

As a part of the exercise, long-distance flights of about 360km will be undertaken, state broadcaster IRIB reported.

Tanker-to-jet and jet-to-jet aerial refuelling exercises will also take place in the sessions.

Iranian fighter jets will conduct low-altitude flight tests over the water across distances of 700km.

Iran often holds war games and exercises to show its preparedness to counter any possible future attacks, Reuters reports.

Iran also staged an air show in April 2009.
